Using Handshake

Handshake is the university’s career management platform where you can connect students with job and internship opportunities, share events, and support their career development.

Faculty/Staff Handshake Account

Faculty may request a student account or faculty account with some administrative access, depending on your needs. Please reach out to Chad Leder, ledercr@appstate.edu, in the Career Development Center to set up an account. With a student account, you are able to view what your students can see and potentially be a resource in their internship or job search. Additionally, you may choose to incorporate virtual events offered through Handshake as part of your class. 

Students receive an introduction to Handshake during Bus 2001. The primary features of Handshake that students use the most are listed below:

Scheduling appointments
This guide provides steps for your students to schedule career coaching appointments. 

Internship/Job Search
This guide provides steps for your students to search for internships and jobs. 
This guide provides steps for students to understand job postings on Handshake and best strategies before applying. 

Career Fairs, Networking and Events 
This guide provides steps for your students to register for career fairs and other events offered through Business Career Services. Additionally, students can register for virtual events with companies representing various geographical locations and industries.
